Tugboat William Tyndale repower

Just completed 10/24 repower of tug boat William Tyndale owned by Walrath Maine in Tacoma. Removed 2 Lugger 6140 500 HP and installed 2 13L 500 HP Scania Keel Cooled engines and reused the Twin Disc 516 4.5 to 1 Gears. They added 12v Alternator along with A pad PTO power steering pump and B pad PTO for winches Hyd pumps to bellhousing.

Repowering with Scania

In early 2020 Anderson Diesel finished a repower of an original 38’ False Pass gillnetter into a South Sound geoduck boat. The project began with removal of a TAMD102D 400HP Volvo engine, and we installed a new Scania common-rail 700HP engine with a ZF 325 1.5 to 1 gear with a clutchable PTO off the rear of the bell housing as there was not room off the front.

We also installed an extra 12V alternator, as the engine is 24V with Glendinning controls. Jason from JNL Welding in Lake Forest Park made the custom mounts to fit the engine stringers and did all the exhaust work. Doug and his crew from Pacific Fiberglass, Seattle, were responsible for all fiberglass repair and upgrades to allow for servicing the new engine and larger shaft required due to the horsepower increase. The top speed increased from 13.5 knots to 21 knots, with a cruise speed of 17 knots and a much quieter engine. The owner was pleased with the successful results!

Cummins GenSet

Anderson Diesel recently rebuilt a Cummins 855 200kw genset on the F/V Reliance. The complaint was the engine smoking at times and unknown hours on engine. We found a bad camshaft, three different sized injectors, turbo in poor shape, and a leaking rear main seal. We had to pick up the engine and turn it sideways to replace the camshaft, and do the rear main seal. We changed liner kits, installed rebuilt cylinder heads, turbo, and fuel pump, and replaced the injectors, to correct CPL and the engine now runs with great performance.

Top End on Two Mitsubishis

Anderson Diesel completed a top end on two Mitsubishi engines for US Seafoods dragger F/V Alaska Provider the first part of January, just before they left for the A Season in the Bering Sea. The engines were Mitsubishi S12R-Y3MPTAW at 1100 HP and 1600RPM. At 19000 hrs we replaced all parts in cylinder heads with Cam Grinders, Inc. of Seattle doing machine work, rebuilt all four turbos, cleaned the aftercooler elements, rebuilt injectors, and installed new fresh water pumps.
